On this episode, Mark Whitman and Heath Mullikin discuss the Summerslam 88 Main Event. They watched the match on the WWE Network while discussing the match itself, the build of the Hogan vs. Savage feud, and subtleties you don’t see anymore in wrestling. It was the final stop of Vince McMahon’s road to put Jim Crockett Promotions out of business and bring the era of the wrestling territories to an end. Summerslam 88 became the final of the Big 4 Pay per views to debut and usher in the PPV era. This end of summer PPV needed something to bring new eyes to the product while exciting existing fans in a whole new way. The Mega Powers of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage took on The Mega Bucks of Andre the Giant and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase with Virgil and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan in their corner. Of course, Hogan and Savage were accompanied by Miss Elizabeth which would prove to be the difference in the match as she distracted referee Jesse “The Body” Ventura, The Mega Bucks, and a legion of young male fans around the world with the reveal of her swimsuit bottoms.
